A Lifelong Love for Dogs Turned Into a Passionate Career

Hi, I’m Cheri Strickland, founder of Cheri’s Premier Dog Training in Bristol, Georgia — and I truly believe I was meant to be a dog trainer.

From a young age, dogs naturally gravitated toward me. I felt more at home with animals than people, and I can’t remember a time in my life without a dog by my side. Training came naturally, even before I had any formal instruction — but it wasn’t until one particularly challenging pup that my journey truly began.

The Dog That Changed Everything

Several years ago, I brought home a new dog — completely untrained and full of chaos! She had zero recall, no manners, darted out the door, and would never let anyone catch her. My usual strategies weren’t working. In fact, things were getting worse.

That’s when I discovered The Dog Calming Code — a simple, gentle training philosophy based on 5 Golden Rules. In just a few minutes, my wild dog was sitting calmly at the door, waiting for me. I was blown away.

That moment changed everything. I had to learn more — and that’s when I enrolled in The Dog Trainer Academy, where I was trained and certified in positive, dog psychology-based methods that work without aggression, yelling, or force.

Today, I use those same methods to help families across Bristol and Southeast Georgia transform their dogs — and their lives — in the most compassionate way possible.
